Back to almost normal!!!!!!!

We had a headcold go around the house last week, so not much in the house was accomplished.  Although, last Friday S2 had his interview with our pastor for his Religious Emblem for Cub Scouts. YAY!!  One down, and one to go. S1 barely started his work for the high school level. He just isn't as excited as he used to be.  There is a vicious circle going on there.  If he doesn't care, I'm not going to worry about it, which leads to him not caring more, which leads to why should I worry about it, and the snowball rolls down the hill.  I did finish the following two projects, which really just needed binding.  And I can do binding in the recliner, using the bound project as an "extra" blankie while getting better.

This first one is a runner for our buffet, and antique from my great-grandma.  The cats keep using it as a ladder to get over the front door, so it needed something to protect it from their claws.  The best part is that I have now used up every bit of the cream batik fabric in the house.  I love it when the happens!  Although I kind of feel like I NEED to replace it with something!

This quilt is a 54 inch lap quilt to go with an auction basket next month.  The theme is American Pastimes, and has a red, white, blue color scheme.  I was trying to stay away from "patriotic" fabric, but I could only find 3 "normal" red/white/blue fabrics.  So it isn't quite what I wanted, but the ladies putting together the auction item are happy with it.  I will be dropping it off today!!! After I get the cat hair off it. (Cat hair is the seal of approval that I did a good job, at least it seems that way to the cats. And the kids, LOL.) If you look at the blocks you can see some of the star blocks I had done to get scraps used up.  That turned out better than I had hoped!  I used 6.5 inch blocks of fabric, and then added in all the red/white/blue start blocks and pieced it all together.  I'd like to do a quilt like that again for the house.

And....I finally got some squares done!  I had time to work on them while D1 was asleep on the sofa recovering from her time with the headcold.  The sewing machine still puts all the kids to sleep!

I am loving the black background with those brights!

Outside we did get dirt for the veggie beds, as well as peas and tomatoes planted.  I also got a pole for the peas to grow up.  I thought about having DH bolt one together for me, but he has enough going on right now.  And since planting time is almost over, stuff like that is on sale.  So at that point, the really pretty garden pole with the finial on top is just going to have to do.  I'm willing to make the sacrifice! :)  At some point I should take photos of the back yard, since it isn't quite what we started with, even though the asphalt is still there! GRRRR!!!!

Now, if only the sun would come back!!!!!

Ready for some inside time!

Well, last week didn't see much get done inside.  We did a bit of gardening, and I particularly enjoyed watching "Farmer Boy" (who is really S2) as we planted onion sets.  Oh, was he adorable in his little Cardhartt overalls!  We also got beans and peas planted. So this week I need, NEED to get the towers set up! And we planted day lilies. Lots of day lilies! Beauty and function, just in different parts of the yard! There is a plan to get more dirt this week so we can plant green onions and tomatoes.

Inside work amounted to finishing a skirt for D1.  I have been informed by the girls that they would appreciate it if I did NOT post pictures of their clothes.  So, there are no pictures of either the skirt from last week for D2 or the one this week for D1.  And as for my obsessive sewing of scrappy stars, I am a little behind again for my weekly goal.  I only got three done. Here they are with the 2 from last week.

The whole point of these little blocks is to use scraps and have fun.  I am finding myself reaching the end of the week stressing out over how many I did or did not get done.  I have 3 full garden beds, but I was so "lazy" last week I only got 3 blocks made. Yeah. Like gardening is for the lazy, right?  This weeks goals are pretty simple.  Dirt, seeds, towers/poles, and a couple of quilts for a couple of auctions.  Ok, maybe 2 quilts added ruined the simple.  But it's worth a shot, right?

Spring break is over....

I am kind of sad about that, and kind of not.  We had a lovely, lazy, break.  We stayed home, and laid on the sofa & chairs reading some REALLY good books.   The girls and I are hooked on two series right now: A Fairy Tale Retold by Regina Doman and John Paul 2 High by Christian M. Frank.  S1 started the Michal Vey books by Richard Paul Evans.  As you can imagine, there hasn't been much getting done at the sewing machine! I did finish a bone pillow for my Grandma and a skirt for D2.  I finished 2 of the scrappy stars while the kids were home.  Not 4, like I wanted, but that's ok.  There are several more weeks in the year. I'm sure I can make up for it later.  Maybe.

I only got a photo of the bone pillow before the camera died, so I'm charging the camera to get the other photos taken later today.  This week we have some gorgeous weather so yard work is on the agenda. And maybe some spring cleaning.  I love it when I have had a good spring cleaning.  The house just feels better. We'll see.

March's last finish

It is spring break, so now I'm late for everything, particularly anything that involves the computer....thankfully we have no actual plans.  It is crazy enough with out camps or whatever anyways.  My last finish for March is.....D1's bed quilt!

That brings the total of March finishes up to 9! I didn't get any star block done last week, but I am not going to worry about it. There are so many things I want to get done in April, but who knows?  It rained all day yesterday and is gorgeous today.  I did get my peas planted, and some are sprouting. The peppermint is finally showing signs of life, and there are flowers blooming.

Off to enjoy the munchkins while they are home!!!!
